Pastor Ken Reports – January 11, 2019

Pastor Ken Reports
“For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.”
1 Corinthians 2:2 (NASB),
What does “Centered” and Paul’s declaration in 1 Corinthians 2:2 (NASB), “For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified” mean to you? I hope you’ll take some time to think about that because that is the question all four of our pastoral staff will be answering tomorrow. Pastor Julie, Pastor Chelsea, Pastor Nacho, and I will each be giving a five minute sermon this Sabbath based on our interpretation of 1 Corinthians 2:2 and our theme of “Centered.” Without talking to each other we have each written our take and during the welcome on Sabbath we will draw to determine the order in which we speak.
This is more than just an attempt to have a creative service and to have all four pastors speak at the same time. I hope you will ponder that each of the writers of the four Gospels had a similar assignment. They each wrote about the life of Jesus from their unique perspective. They each shared what they felt was most important. Mark was short and to the point. Luke was extremely detailed and as a doctor interested in Jesus’ healing of the diseased. Matthew makes the case to the Jewish people for why Jesus is the Messiah and John shows how Jesus created a new culture and community that includes everyone.
We all have our unique perspectives. That is why we need Jesus. Without Him, we find ourselves veering off on tangents and extremes. With Him, we find our Center, together.
TWO BIG THINGS
  1. Next week is our annual campus-wide week of prayer. Starting on Monday, January 14, each member of the pastoral staff will leading out a different day at Madison Campus Elementary, Madison Academy, and the church. At Madison Campus Church there is a free supper that starts at 6:00 pm and the worship thought will begin at 6:45 pm. We will be done every evening by no later than 7:30 pm. We are looking forward to coming together with you to be Centered on Jesus. See you there!
  2. Last Sabbath we handed out our 2019 Mission survey. The survey is anonymous and helps us measure how we are doing at fulfilling our mission to love God, love people, and serve the world. If you already handed in a survey, thank you! If you did not fill out the survey last week please click on the survey button below. Your responses are anonymous and the survey takes about 2 minutes. Thanks!

January 14-19: This is our annual church week of prayer that I mentioned above. In case you missed it, there is a free supper that starts at 6:00 pm and the worship thought will begin at 6:45 pm. We will be done every evening by no later than 7:30 pm.

We will conclude our week of prayer at 4 pm and that will be followed by a church business meeting.
Our final Sabbath in January, the 26th, will feature our vitally important, Celebrate Recovery, ministry.
